About Ted Leigh
My abiding interest in making art is the discovery of abstractions in my visual world. My collages, photography and painting, both abstract and figurative, seek juxtapositions of shapes, colors and textures that create an experience of visual tension which is both sustained and resolved in a continuing cycle.
I love ordinary, overlooked things–ripped, torn cardboard and paper, the surfaces of split firewood, rusted tools and found objects. I like thick paint; I like compositions with strong light/dark contrasts. I love the shadows cast through colored glass. In the best work, a force that is beyond me works through me.
